Two weeks ago, I was at my grandfather’s funeral, bidding farewell to a man who had been a cornerstone in my life. It was there, amidst the somber setting, that his lawyer and neighbor approached me with unexpected news: my grandfather had willed his beloved 3,000-acre ranch in Lonestar Junction, Texas, to me.
The catch? Ownership would only transfer if I committed to living and working on the ranch for the next 12 months.
