?I considered the implications of what Sheryl had just said. âThen this was all plannedâpremeditated. The killer planned to use me as a patsy.â
?âDid you examine the barrel of your pistol to see if a silencer had been fitted into it?â
?âOf course not. What would I look for?â
?âScratches on the inside of the barrelâdamn!â Sheryl said.
?âWhat is it?â
?âI should have thought about that last night and examined your gun. I am afraid I have not been at my best, Mark.â
?âI think youâre fantastic,â I marveled.
?âReally?â She gave me a broad smile.
?âYouâve deduced a lot more than I could have imagined. Honestly, Sheryl, if we have any chance at all, it will be because of you.â
?âSh!â Sheryl said and ran to the door.
?âWhaââ But I heard the electronic lock click.
?Sheryl hit off the lights and I slid against the wall.
?The door opened a crack, and then someone slithered in under the âCRIME SCENEâ tape and shut the door.
?Sheryl flashed on the lights.

?âWhat on earth are you doing here?â Ms. Cunningham said, her face red.
?âI believe we could ask you the same question,â I demanded, trying to sound like I was in charge.
?âYes,â Mark agreed and stepped away from the wall. âWeâre here to find out what happened.â
?âI thought you two were in jail,â Winsley retorted with a look of anger.
?âWell, weâre here now,â I jeered. âYouâd better tell us what youâre doing here.â
?âHow did you get in?â she inquired.
; ?âSomeone switched my key for Candyâs,â Mark told her. âThe only other person with a copy of the key would be the murderer.â
?Winsley turned pale. âOh my! You donât think Iââ
?âWinsley, we have nothing to lose by telling the police we were here,â I explained. âAnd we would love to let them know you dropped by.â
?âIt was because of my investments,â Winsley fumed.
?âThe ones you have with Randall?â I put forward.
