“Hey, I’ll call you later,” Monty said, “and I’ll be back tomorrow. The doctor said you’ll probably be here a few more days.”

“Okay.”

“I’ll talk to you soon,” Jeff said.

“Hey. Promise you’ll tell me the truth about Alex, okay? Don’t try to protect me because of ... this.”

Both men were quiet for a moment, but then Jeff said, “Okay, you have my word. But I really believe she’ll make it through. If anyone in the FBI can do it, it’s Alex.”

“I know you’re right.”

After they left, Logan prayed again. You just have to bring her back to me, Lord. I’ve got to tell her how much I love her. I won’t let the opportunity get away from me this time.
