I hear him exhale, and he says, “I won’t say a word, but I’m going to ask the locals if Luis Rivera is still in town.”

Relief washes through me. Todd will keep my secret, and Kris will never need to know.

Looking into his brown eyes, I say, “Thank you.”

Todd reaches out and grasps my hand. “I think it’s a mistake, but Kris won’t hear it from me.”
