“I just made a fresh pot.”

The waitress turned around and walked back to the counter, picked up the two plates of pie slices, and returned to their table.“Anything else?”

Chase glanced at Katie, and she shook her head.

“Thank you, Mabel.We’re good,” Chase said, flashing a smile.

“You kids enjoy.”

Mabel walked away, her cushioned heels silent on the tiled floor.
