He slides down to one knee and reaches into his pocket. Looking up at me, he pulls out a small box and opens it. Inside, there is a gigantic diamond ring.

It’s seriously the biggest diamond I’ve ever seen.

“Yesterday, I scouted this,” he says, “thinking of you.”

I laugh because my Trent is now a cat burglar.

“So, ah, Suki…will you marry me?”

In this new world, I don’t know what that means. I’m told I’m a ‘Kept Woman’, but I give little thought to it.

Of course, I am already a wife, but the laws of man are gone now, and the Keep has their own.

I nod, thrusting my hand out so he can put the ring on my finger. “Yes!”

After he slides the ring on my fingers, he leaps to his feet, taking me with him.

He holds me, swaying gently, his cheeks moist with tears.

“I love you so darn much,” he cries.

And with all the hope I have left in the world, I say, “I love you, too.”
